Filtering! The biggest EMC hack!
Not really.
I’d say oftentimes PCB designers, when getting close to the EMC deadline,
rely too much on them.
But filters do have their valuable function, especially when used correctly.
What I often see is that they aren’t planned for during the design phase
and are instead used too late—like a band-aid to fix already bad interference issues.
Integrating them early in the design is the key to reducing production costs.
It’s better to over-engineer and remove something if it’s not needed
than to wait and integrate it at the last minute.
Otherwise, they become bulky, overpriced, and hard to fit into the assembly process.
And even worse, they might not be enough to reduce EMI when needed most.
Hope this helps,
Dario
